Monterey Institute of International Studies

The Monterey Institute of International Studies offers a Graduate Certificate in Computer-Assisted Language Learning. Stop by our exhibit to learn about the CALL classes we offer online and on campus!

The CALL Certificate can be taken concurrently with the M.A. in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and the M.A. in TFL (Teaching Foreign Languages) through the Graduate School of Language and Educational Linguistics, or as a stand-alone Graduate Certificate. The CALL Certificate equips teachers with the tools to integrate computer technology into language classrooms and programs. It is also an excellent program for teachers seeking advancement into leadership positions in CALL.

The CALL Certificate program consists of 12 graduate units in classes ranging from Using the Internet for Language Teaching to Computer-Assisted Assessment and Introduction to Digital Media, among many others. Most of the courses are conducted in the new Max Kade Language and Technology Center (LTC). The LTC is dedicated to the promotion of innovative language learning and teaching. To learn more about the LTC, please go to maxkade.miis.edu.

In the fall of 2003 we will launch the new CALL Certificate Online. Graduate students and professional educators will take four units online, then spend three weeks in beautiful Monterey during the summer for hands-on workshops (in web design, concordancing, etc.), and finish with four units online, including a practical project at their regular place of work or study.

The Monterey Institute of International Studies aims to provide students with a supportive learning environment. The latest technological development is the wireless access throughout the campus. In addition, the Samson Student Center airs satellite news broadcasts from throughout the world. The Institute's library has access to global language resources through extensive computer databases.

The Monterey Institute of International Studies is a private graduate school focusing on international careers. We offer MA degrees in Language Teaching (TESOL/TFL), Translation & Interpretation, International Policy Studies, and International Business.
